Would that you, would that I

That you had come along

Thirty years later

Or that my timing

Was better.

That I was your Chapter Three

Love affair

Not your quiet epilogue.

That I had seen

The things you saw

And shared more of you

Than I share now.

That I could somehow

Be there

And not these years

Behind.

I will never catch you up

Catch your eye

Dazzle you with wit.

It is too late

To blossom

Under your gaze.

I can only hope

That artless charm

And gentle quips

As we slide further

Will satisfy.
