The Real Self

The Real Self

Everyone has a darker self,

A part they try to hide.

For fear they may be cruelly judged

They hide it deep inside.

I too sometimes wear a mask;

One that others want to see

But how its cover starts to hurt;

It isn't really me.

So very long ago I learned

The difference that I feel:

Between playing the role of someone else,

And the Me that's truly real.
