The Man Behind The Rose

No family or relatives
had the man buried here
But someone cared for him
And every week would appear
Only once a week
But never the same day
On the headstone of this man
A single rose would lay
Never was there a witness
To this selfless act
But every week for a year
And this is a fact
Who was this unknown
That so faithfully laid
A single rose on the grave
Of a friend he had made
When the last rose was laid
In the winter month of December
With it a letter stating
" I will always remember"
A man in poverty
And ever so meek
But you gave me money
Without fail once a week
You barely had more
than me Any day,
but every week for a year
You would send some my way
So every week for a year
I have come here to say
" My friend on your grave
A red rose i shall lay "
