Saving You

Saving You

by Debbie Antis

Sprays touch the  dark sky

Overwhelming tides of despair

Sweep over me

Cold consumes

Sounds of screeching

Overhead

Them circling round and round

Above the grey blue waters

I cry out to you

Your head a bobbing, black marble

In the depths of a

Cruel deep sea

Reaching my hand out

Our fingers graze I hold on

Then one by one you let go

I thread water desperately

Trying to hold on

Not understanding

But then I do

Can't save both of us

I watch as you drift further away

Tears combine with salt and sulphur

I curse our benevolent God

Who gave us all free will
