LIGHT

Light from each star
a lifetime to arrive
prompts some to wonder
if the star’s still alive

We may glance now and then
but we often insist
because of distance and time
the star may not exist

And that’s what it’s like
when the young look my way
staring through me
with nothing to say

Presuming the light
that falls from each eye
is simply the remnants
of a body that’s died
