Child of the Night

Caustic bits of memory clung to his consciousness Pristine agony emanating from each fragment Of his abandoned state of mind The silvery sound of Death's footsteps Relentlessly stalked his ears Like the incessant murmur of an undying sea His screams choked themselves with rage As her shrieks of fear and desperation Were offered up to the deaf and dying stars Where once countless emotions swam Only incredulity made itself known As his calloused hands chased the life from her throat The pale glow of the waning moon Performed unknown dances of welcome Across her milky white skin As he watched the dullness of the night sky Cautiously carve its way Stealing the shimmers of life from her eyes Caressed by woe and coddled by darkness He truly was a child of the night
